The Swing [5/9/2007]

My first recollection was in this very old and massive house. It was quite neglected as well as you could see the paint had mostly peeled from the walls exposing old faded wood and dry walls. I could imagine the house once tailored to high society with its high ceilings and intricate woodwork.

Initially I found myself with a small group of about four or five people and we were going outside through a back door. There was a small set of about four steps coming down from the door onto a large open porch. The first step was rotten and split, but the next three steps were intact.

We step outside where I observe we are on top of a large hill with wide open pasture and a slightly more gradual slop off to the east side. The house itself had to stand at least four stories not including the small tower-like peaks in at least three places. A large swing hung in some unknown fashion with ropes that hung down from the top of the house. If one were to use the swing, they could theoretically reach the top of the house before they were parallel with the ground and their feet would touch the roof. The sky was cloudy and dark, the grass was a dark grayish-green color, and the house was a rather dull gray.

I sat in the chair and started swinging. After I get momentum going, I am nearing the house at the high point of my swing. At this moment, everything changed.

The sky became lighter and the grass became a dry golden field with strange blood-red patches here and there. Up the hill I could vaguely see the house. My co-worker, Jason, stood near me and I could see him with a scythe as he was gutting a dead cow on the ground. After he finished with the cow, he pulled a clump of goat hair from the cow. At that point I was going to leave him to his business and go back to the house. He told me he had to cut two other goats, which I could see not far from the cow, but I left him and went toward the house.

I could hear instructions being spoken to me for some reason as if I was taking a test. I didn't really want to take the test, so I let the speech run on until I failed enough of these instructions to continue on. After the test was failed, I found myself back on the swing in the more dark and dismal place I started in.

I looked around and saw a huge black bear and four smaller black bears in a pack charging toward the house. The larger bear look much more like a huge black grizzly and almost reminded me of something out of World of Warcraft. They charged my group of friends who seemed to have ninja-turtle skills and attempted to fight them back, but somewhere in the fray one person got killed.

A "Game Over" signal was sent and suddenly things restarted back to my returning to the swing. This time I knew the bears were coming, my friends were not in sight, and the bears charged into the large house. I was glad that the elapsed time was longer meaning I must have done something right for this "game" to continue longer.

I snuck back into the house behind the bears and they were smashing at things as they spoke about tea and crumpets. It was as if the bears took on a personality of their savage selves as well as the nature of the refined living quarters. My friends were nowhere in sight, but I did seem to also have the skills of a ninja turtle as I was wielding a katana. I attacked the large bear, but something went wrong and I missed. I woke up a moment later to my alarm.
